Kappa Alpha Pi

Kappa Alpha Pi is The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s first co-ed, professional, pre-law fraternity. KAP has strived to educate members about the law and prepare them for a bright future. KAPi is focused on its three pillars of professionalism, service, and brotherhood to educate members, foster relationships, and to serve our greater community. As the KAPi Mu chapter, founded in 2019, we provide undergraduate students with ample networking opportunities, knowledge of the law, and plentiful resources to best prepare students on their journey to law school and beyond. I am honored to be able to leave my mark on the Fraternity, and its 150+ members, in such crucial years of its development, and was thrilled to help restore an in-person presence for our members and the community.

President

Oversaw the production of all media, managed external relations, organized the recruitment process, restructured the leadership, and outlined the goals of the fraternity for the 21-22 school year.

Task: Expand the reputation of Kappa Alpha Pi in Champaign-Urbana, and develop relationships with the community and beyond. Rebuild the social and charitable aspects of our organization, which were impacted by COVID-19.

Impacting the community

As President, I was able to guide the charitable direction of the Fraternity, plan various community services projects, and organize fundraisers for local non-profits.

  • Fundraised over $500 for the local, legal services organization. Their Champaign-Urbana office, provides affordable, accessible, and high-quality immigration legal services.

  • Fundraised over $500 for the local, emergency-based child services facility. Crisis Nursery is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect by providing 24-hour emergency care for children and families in crisis.

  • Provided aid to our communities most at risk population by making care-baskets and blankets and distributing these supplies.

New Member Educator

Served as the New Member Educator for the Spring 2020 Epsilon Class, during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unforeseen global events made our semester and pledgeship mostly virtual, however this didn’t impact the relationships developed and education provided to the 34 pledges under my supervision.

  • Participated and led an entirely virtual recruitment process with over 150 candidates. Was able to quickly implement and improve this process in the Spring 2021, when a winter storm forced us back online.

  • Modified the traditional pre-law pledgeship process by creating an 8-week program with a focus on professional development. The process included weekly lectures and assignments, interview training, resume workshops, and coffee chats with fellow KAP members and experts in professional fields. This has become the standard model for the fraternity in subsequent terms.

  • Despite the mostly virtual semester, I organized in-person activities in safe, outdoor spaces. I sent the pledges on scavengers hunts, hosted picnics, had an in-person initiation, and helped plan our first Semi-formal dance.

Public Relations

Rebranded the Kappa Alpha Pi Mu chapter social media and assisted in apparel creation.

Task: Create a brand for Kappa Alpha Pi designed to attract potential rushees while continuing to engage active members.
